Why I love this recipe
When I can get extra veggies into a meal, I do. This low-carb vegetable side is a particular favorite because it just disappears. No one complains; they just mindlessly pop carrots into their mouths.
Buying pre-cut fresh carrots and tossing them into the air fryer earns my Lazy Seal Of Approval.
Why make this dish in the air fryer?
- Speed. You can have homemade carrot chips on the table in under 15 minutes.
- Flavor. A little crunch and a lot of flavor come from air-frying carrots. It's faster than roasting, easier than oil frying, and much lazier than standing over a stove. But, equally delicious!
- Perfect for small batches - The ideal way to have a simple carrot snack without needing to cook the whole bag.
What you'll need to make air fryer carrot chips
Following are the ingredients you'll need to make delicious carrot chips. Full quantities and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this page

Carrot slices
Fresh carrot slices work best. I like the crinkle-cut because they hold extra seasoning, but any thin carrot coin will do. When I can find a bag of pre-sliced carrots, that's always my first choice.
Avocado Oil
A light coating of oil helps the carrot chips crisp and brown evenly. Light olive oil is also a good option
Garlic Salt

Coat the carrots
Add all ingredients to a sealable bag and shake to fully coat each carrot slice.

Air fry
Add your coated carrots to an air fryer basket or tray and cook at 375℉ for 12 or 13 minutes. Shake/toss them around to turn most of them over, then air fry for another 4-5 minutes.*

Cool
Allow chips to cool and serve.
Note
Each air fryer is a little different. The first time you make this dish, watch your chips towards the end of cooking to ensure they don't burn.

Flavor variations for carrot chips
Garlic salt is my go-to seasoning for these air-fried root vegetables because it goes with so many different dishes. Just like Air Fryer Tortilla Chips, you really can get very creative. Here are a few suggestions
- Ranch seasoning
- Smoky paprika and salt
- Chili lime seasoning
- Truffle salt
- Everything bagel seasoning (especially delicious stacked up with Warm Olives)
- Freshly grated Parmesan cheese and garlic powder

Serving ideas
While these carrot chips make a great side or snack on their own, they are also the perfect dipper.
How to store and reheat carrot chips
Allow chips to fully cool before storing. Store in an airtight container or bag at room temperature for up to 2 days. Avoid refrigerating.
For best results, cover loosely to prevent trapped moisture. If stored chips lose some crispness, reheat them in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 375. (I personally love them soggy!)

Expert chip tips
- Pat garden-fresh carrots dry before cooking. Removing extra moisture will help keep the carrots from steaming while they cook.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer. Chips should be in a single layer with a little space between them. Cook in batches.
- Allow chips to fully cool before storing. Placing warm chips in a sealed container will cause them to soften due to trapped steam.
- Avocado oil is a great choice for this dish. It can withstand the high circulating heat of the air fryer without breaking down, leaving a clean and light flavor.
- Use a light coating of oil. You can shake it in a bag, as suggested here, or spray it on.
- Carrot chips will have lightly crisp edges with tender centers rather than a firm potato-chip-like crunch.
