📝Ingredient shopping list
This is a list of the ingredients you'll need to make parmesan chicken dip. For quantities and full preparation instructions, please see the recipe card at the bottom of this page.

- Ground chicken
- Marinara sauce - Store-bought or homemade
- Mozzarella cheese - shredded. I use the pre-shredded kind, although some people feel that it melts better when you shred your own.
- Cottage cheese - whipped (if you are too lazy to whip it, you can buy small curd cottage cheese. It will melt in your crockpot. Just make sure to stir it really well after it is cooked/melted. 4% milk fat works best here.
- Panko crumbs - I like the Italian seasoned kind for this recipe, but any will do
- Parmesan cheese - Freshly grated is delicious but not necessary
- Seasonings: Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt
💜Why use your slow cooker for this recipe
- Hands-Free Cooking (my kind of lazy!). You do NOT need to brown the chicken in advance. Add everything to your slow cooker pot, stir together, and forgot it until you're ready to serve. Truly Lazy Slow Cooker style!
- Evenly Cooked Ground Chicken. The steamy environment in your slow cooker ensures that your ground chicken cooks evenly and stays tender. Not dry or over-browned bits like you might get from stovetop cooking.
- One Pot Magic. All ingredients are mixed, cooked, and served from the same pot. Clean doesn't get lazier than this!
- Entertaining perfection. This delicious chicken parm dip can be prepped in advance and cooked just about anywhere you can find an outlet. Set it and forget it while you prep other dishes, get dressed, or just enjoy your guests!

Preparing Your Slow Cooker
Prepare your slow cooker by coating it with a non-stick agent. Any nonstick cooking spray or oil will work. Olive oil and avocado oil are my go-to coatings.
NOTE: Some slow cooker inserts come with a nonstick surface. Use of a non-stick agent is still suggested. However, oil is sometimes recommended rather than spray to protect the longevity of the non-stick surface. Check your slow cooker's manual if you have any concerns.
Alternatively, you can choose to use a slow cooker liner.
Get Cooking

Place ground chicken in a greased slow cooker and use a rubber spatula to break it apart.

Add all remaining ingredients to slow cooker.

Stir to combine fully. Then, cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or high for 2-3 (depending on your timing).

Once fully cooked, remove the lid and stir again. Top with more shredded cheese, cover, and cook again until all the cheese is melted. Get dipping!
🍽Serving suggestions
- Classic dippers - crackers, breadsticks, pita chips, pretzel flats, and pagel chips are all great with this ground chicken parmesan
- Lighter options - celery sticks, cucumber slices, and bell pepper strips are all perfect for dipping as well
- Make it a meal - spoon this hot chicken dip over pasta, rice, riced cauliflower, or slider rolls for a more substantial dish.

🔁Substitutions
- For a different protein option, try ground turkey in place of ground chicken in this lazy parmesan dip recipe.
- Swap cottage cheese with ricotta cheese for a richer dish with a similar creamy texture
- Switch out Parmesan cheese with pecorino romano or asiago for a sharper bite.
- Add some crushed red pepper flakes to dial up the heat in this mild dish.
Storing and reheating
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator. For longer storage, freeeze this easy slow cooker chicken appetizer for up to 2 months.
Reheat single servings in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Be sure to stir thoroughly in between heating sessions. If your dish seems dry, add more marinara sauce.
😉Hints & hacks
- This dip is thick. If you prefer a thinner dip, add additional marinara sauce
- Sauce matters!! Be sure to use your favorite sauce for the best flavor. Or...make your own!!

- To prep this Italian chicken dip in advance, mix all ingredients in a large bowl and cover. You can store prepped dip in the refrigerator for a day or two before adding it to your slow cooker.
- Each crockpot is different. The first time you make this crowd-pleaser, watch closely to ensure nothing burns. (I personally love the burnt edges on a dish like this, but not everyone does).
- I generally recommend using a slow cooker liner for easy clean-up! They are not overly pretty, though, so I skip them when serving guests.
- In the market for a casserole slow cooker?? I love mine!
Always double-check that your slow cooker is plugged in and turned on! Nothing is worse than a cold crockpot when you are ready to eat! 🤪
