While I am a huge proponent of using slow cookers all year long, there is no denying that reality. This drink is the perfect example of a different way to use your slow cooker to help warm you from the inside out.
This easy cocktail can be put together in minutes and served directly from a warm slow cooker all day/evening. These facts make it an easy (lazy!) and wonderful addition to any menu.
However, this drink somehow has the added benefit of being able to raise the level of sophistication of any occasion where it is being served. Not sure why, but to me, a glass of mulled wine is somehow - fancy!
Whether it be a sparkling new year's eve party, a traditional family holiday celebration, or quiet evening by the fire, you can't go wrong with slow cooker mulled wine.
How To Make Hot Wine In A Crockpot
The is the ultimate "dump and go" recipe. Just place one bottle of red wine into your slow cooker. Add a sliced orange, cut up apple, cinnamon sticks, triple sec and agave and cook on high for 1 hour and then turn down to warm to serve.
There are many different opinions on the best wine to use for a recipe of this type. I do not have a sophisticated wine pallet so I tend to use whatever I have on hand. Cabernet Sauvignon is what I have used most often and it is delicious!

How To Serve Crockpot Wine
This is the part where you can get fun and creative! Make sure to serve in some sort of heat resistant glass or something with a handle. Since I love to serve this dish outside on a cool fall night spent around the fire pit, I often use unbreakable hot/cold cups.

The fruit that cooks in mulled wine is delicious and it is great to include a few pieces in each cup when serving. You can also use fresh fruit wedges or slices and a fresh cinnamon stick in your serving glasses.
For larger parties, leave your slow cooker on warm and keep a ladle and some appropriate glasses next to it for a great self-serve drink.
Storing Slow Cooker Mulled Wine
Store leftovers of your mulled wine in the refrigerator for a few days. Allow the leftover drink to cool and place into an airtight jar or container. To reheat, just pour back into your slow cooker and reheat using the warm setting.

- 3.5 quart or larger slow cooker
- measuring cups
- Spoon to stir
- Ladle for serving
Ingredients
- 1 750ml bottle red wine
- ½ cup triple sec or other orange liquor
- ¼ cup agave
- 1 sliced orange, divided Do not remove peel
- 1 apple, cut into wedges
- 4-6 cinnamon sticks, divided
Instructions
- Place liner in slow cooker, if using
- pour contents of wine bottle into slow cooker1 750ml bottle red wine
- add triple sec and agave, stir½ cup triple sec, ¼ cup agave
- add apple wedges, 2 large or 4 small cinnamon sticks and about ⅔ of the orange slices1 sliced orange, divided, 1 apple, cut into wedges, 4-6 cinnamon sticks, divided
- cover and cook on high for at least 1 hour, until drink is hot
- turn down to warm and use a ladle to fill glasses
- use remaining orange slices and cinnamon sticks to decorate glasses
