Mixing Spoon
- 4 - 5 lbs ripe pears quartered and cored. (I use 12 pears)
- 2 cups dark brown sugar
- ½ cup lemon juice
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoon sea salt
grease slow cooker with non-stick agent of choice
cut pears into quarters. remove core and stem. You do not need to remove the skin
add 4 - 5 lbs ripe pears, 2 cups dark brown sugar, ½ cup lemon juice, 2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 2 teaspoon sea salt to slow cooker
Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours until pears are super soft.
use an immersion blender to fully blend into a butter-consistency
- I use Bartlett pears when I make this recipe, as they are easy to find in my area.
- Pears have a naturally gritty consistency. If you want to reduce this somewhat, try running your pear butter through a food mill.
- To thicken pear butter further, cook with the lid off for an additional hour or so after blending.
- * Yield is approximate as it depends on the size of your pears and if you choose to cook with the lid off for a time to thicken. I generally yield about 4 cups
