- 1 large loaf French bread day old bread or stale bread works best
- 6 eggs beaten
- 2 cups milk dairy or non-dairy
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 3 tablespoon molasses*
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp allspice
- ½ tsp cloves
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- powdered sugar
cut 1 large loaf French bread into 2" cubes and place into a large bowl
in a medium sized bowl, whisk together 6 eggs, 2 cups milk, ¼ cup maple syrup, 3 tablespoon molasses*. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon ground ginger, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon allspice, ½ teaspoon cloves, and ½ teaspoon nutmeg
pour egg mixture over bread cubes, cover, and refrigerate 3-12 hours.
when you are ready to cook, add soaked bread cubes into greased slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 2-3 hours.
sprinkle with powdered sugar when you are ready to serve and enjoy!
*For best results, use dark or light molasses. Blackstrap molasses can be for this recipe but it will add a bit of bitter flavor.
