Instructions

  • Grease the slow cooker with oil or non-stick spray. Do NOT skip this step or cleanup will be difficult.
  • Add 1 cup steel cut oats, 4 cups milk of choice, ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 tablespoon maple syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste, and ½ teaspoon salt to the slow cooker. Stir well to combine
  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until oats are tender and creamy.
  • Stir after cooking. Add more milk if a thinner texture is preferred.
  • When sering, top each serving with pistachio butter, crunchy toasted kataifi (Dubai-style topping), chocolate chips, and pistachios.

Notes

  1. The chocolate base of the oatmeal is not very sweet as written.  If you choose not to add toppings, add additional sweetener to taste.
  2. Nutritional facts are based on the chocolate oatmeal as written and do not include any toppings
  3. Steel-cut oats work best for slow cooking.  Rolled oats will become very soft and mushy.
